Originally founded in 2003, BlueFolder was an investor-backed company that was acquired in 2012 by Quest Software, who subsequently was acquired by Dell. BlueFolder continued to market and support its software, but with a narrowed focus on the IT service management industry. In 2014, several members of the original BlueFolder team acquired the product and customer base back from Dell with the goal of returning focus to the broader field service industry. BlueFolder is now an employee-owned company with headquarters in Colorado Springs.
